Hi Oliver
I have a compressor I bought second or third hand 15 years ago, it is about
a 150 litre receiver with a single cylinder pump and a belt driven by a true
1.5 horse motor, the cylinder has the date 1943 for the test pressure of
300psi (I think) stamped on it, and the motor is obviously a replacement
dated nineteen sixty something, before the advent of fictitious power
ratings. This old beast has kept up with my requirements which like yours I
would say are typical diy usage, some periods of extended use, some periods
of idleness. I should also perhaps point out that mine lives under a canvas
(water and radar proof! MOD type canvas) cover in the back garden!
Which I think proves my philosophy to be reasonably sound:-
Don't be too proud to buy second hand! Often you can get equipment of
professional quality for less than new diy prices!
Total cost of ownership (excluding consumed electricity) is:-
Purchase #50
Concrete plinth with reinforcement #25
Replacement bearings for pump crank #18
New larger diameter motor pulley to make it reach pressure quicker#15

Total #108
Not bad really, ought perhaps to treat it to a lick of paint as a special
treat!

Graham.
