In addition, note that the nuts may be different even if the threads and
flare match.  British reverse flare nuts (like those used at the rear wheel
cylinders on TR2-6) have part of the nut that is not threaded, because the
threads inside the brake cylinder do not go all the way to the bottom of the
hole.  If you try to use American nuts that are threaded all the way, the
threads will bottom in the cylinder and the fitting may leak.  I've seen
cylinders broken by misguided attempts to fix this by overtightening the
nut.  Even if it doesn't leak at first, it may leak under the extreme
pressures during a panic stop (which is a bad time to find out you've got a
problem).

However, some US auto parts stores do have premade lines with the right nuts
on them.
