Putting grease on the spindle is a good idea.  In normal operation the 
bearing will slightly rotate and work across the spindle.  If you are getting a 
fine 
brown rust, the spindle is too dry.  A press fit bearing such as a front 
wheel drive hub does not need grease as there is zero movement.

Bearings will only squeal if they are dry.  A bearing that has worn out ( and 
still has grease) will be rough to turn and have a old roller skate sound.

For replacement bearings I buy only USA, Japan, Taiwan, German, French or 
similar.  The China and Poland bearings just don't hold up, too soft.
