This is not common by has been known to happen.  The part is not expensive
and I do carry a spare just in case what happened to you occurs.

Yesterday, I managed to go from a full sump of oil to practically none in
the matter of 10 miles. Unannounced to me, it was pouring out the pressure
sensor on my 74 TR6. I don't know the history of the sensor. It may be
original. Has this happened to anyone else? Was there ever a bad batch of
them?
