I agree Don. There is no undercoat for POR-15. There are some specific
preparation requirements though. There can be NO solvents on the metal to
paint, which is the reason for the Marine Clean wash. They also recommend
that you treat the metal with Metal Prep which is a phosphorous coating.
This applies to rusty metal also. They also recommend that you wear
protective gloves to keep from contaminating the clean metal with your
hands. The other big point to make is that the metal has to be bone dry
prior to painting.

I am sure you are aware that POR-15 also makes a chassis black top coat to
be applied over the POR-15 which gives it a satin finish. It is also
perfectly acceptable to just paint the chassis with black POR-15 and leave
it. The worry about POR-15 only is that it will fade if exposed to sunlight.
If it sees sunlight it will be because it is upside down and at that point
fading POR-15 is probably about the last thing you will be worrying about!
