Many thanks to those who have replied to my misfire problem - Michael,
James, John Mc and Randall.

The misfire (which may or may not be a cracked valve seat / guide)
doesn't cause driveability problems at all - I am using the car every
day (it's summer down here!).

The problems are an uneven idle and a slight misfire, and the popping
when it's cold. My suspicions are that the problem is fuel related - I
recently put its first ever tank of unleaded fuel in, so perhaps the
metering unit seals are disintegrating. That would also account for the
slight leak from the MU. Those bits of seal might then find their way
into the injector pipes, causing fuel supply problems. That could cause
a backfire from a leaking or dribbling injector, but why only when it's
cold?

Either way, it looks like I need to fix the MU. Is that doable by me or
a specialist, or do I need a full reconditioned unit?

Many thanks

Paul
