Some engines ( non TR specific) have a slight rattle until oil pressure 
builds due to oil pressure fed timing chain adjusters, others ( like air cooled 
motors ) have generous clearances and tend to be noisy.

All of what I'm driving now has a carb, I crank the engine for 5 seconds then 
pump the gas once to set the choke.  This cranking gives the oil pressure a 
chance to build or at least get a head start.

Piston rattle will be most noticeable when cold, more throttle is used and 
when at a certain rpm range.  Aluminum pistons expand at a faster rate than 
iron 
so they are set slightly loose when cold.  The pistons tend to wear more 
rapidly than the cylinders making the noise more noticeable.  Driving with 
light 
throttle when cold and avoiding the resonant rpm range will make the motor live 
longer.

Is this TR motor known for cracking piston skirts?  Some engines have weak 
skirts that crack when worn.  Other motors can run for years without a problem.
