I have had an original AAmco (SP) battery box liner in my 58 3A since I
restored it back in '79. Originally I had a standard acid battery but now
use sealed maintenance free batteries. I never had the box fill with water
eventhough I have driven in some heavy rain in the past. Non sealed batteries
do leak acid on occasion. I wish I took a photo of the battery box in the TR4
project before I repaired all the rush damage caused by acid.
I just got a new liner from TRF for the TR4 project and it to has a sealed
battery. Both liners look ok and I feel that the liner adds a measure of
protection against any acid spill. Not sure about Moss or VB quality but TRF
is top notch and it may even be on sale now.
Even a sealed battery can leak. About a month ago I was out driving my POS
Saturn VUE and it just up and died. I thought the battery just died but after
inspection by me and a tow truck driver from AAA it turned out the side
terminal just decided to break off inside the battery and acid was just
dripping out until the acid level was below the broken terminal. A battery
tray would have helped there!!
