I have always used grease. As per instructions, not more than five pumps
with the gun. I have had the occasion to open the rack and pinion gear and
there was plenty of grease in there. . .all over the place, not giving any
indication that anything was under lubricated. Give it six pumps and it oozes
out
into the boot. IMHO using gear oil is going to accomplish nothing more than
add to the stain on your garage floor.
