I faced the same thing when I put headers on my 3A.  After discussing  with 
Randall he suggested that the outcome of the experiment to see if it was OK  
may not be to my liking.  After thanking him for his injection of common  sense 
I made a heat shield that fit between the brake line and the header.   Mine 
was not touching but was 1/2 - 5/8" away.
