On a British car the pinion flange on the front of the diff attaches to the 
flange on the Prop shaft. Drive shafts go from the diff to the wheel hubs.
I know this because I had cucumber sandwiches for lunch.

Which flange are you taking about? The one in the nose of the diff that 
attaches to the driveshaft?
