Last weekend at Eastern Creek was another excellent HSRCA event. The =
weather was kind, the racing was close and there were only a few =
incidents.

Tin tops ran as two separate grids, with one qualifying session and =
three races each:

First grid was Group Na (pre'58) combined with slower Group Nb =
(pre'65)

Second grid was faster Group Nb (pre'65) combined with Group Nc =
('65-'72)

The quick grid was dominated by Ross Donnelly in his Nc '65 Mustang, =
closely followed by Laurie Donaher's Nc '69 Mustang and Peter O'Brien's =
Nc '71 Falcon. Surprise car, due to incredible speed and driver skills, =
was Graham Russell's Nb '63 Cooper S which was consistently leading many =
of the more powerful cars. During the qualifying and racing there were =
several minor collisions, nobody hurt, but this eliminated several of =
the cars progressively over the weekend.

The slower grid racing, including your scribe, was dominated by a =
ding-dong battle between Paul Warne's Jaguar MkI (which won the Sunday =
feature race) and Trevor Sheumack's Cortina GT MkI. In Group Na, Aaron =
Gabriel's Morris Minor beat Michael St John Cox's Jaguar Mk VIIM in =
every race. Mechanical gremlins progressively eliminated a number of =
cars over the weekend.

The slower grid Sunday feature race was marred by an unfortunate =
coming-together between Fred Burley's Cooper S and Phil Powell's Cortina =
GT MkI. The Cortina rolled and there was a small fire, quickly =
extinguished. During the roll Phil's head came through the window and =
banged on the tarmac - he suffered whiplash, a cut to the head and some =
bruising. Given this list's earlier discussion about safety issues =
relating to horseshoe collars, Nomex attire, full face helmets, etc, =
this also leads into a subject that has been given some discussion in =
Australia recently - should window nets be made mandatory for closed =
cars?

Safe racing....

Group Na pre'58 Classic Saloons), 1956 Morris Isis (almost a daily =
driver) and 1996 Saab 900S Coupe (quality worse than most LBCs and Saab =
attitude to customers worse than BL ever was back in the 70s - don't buy =
a Saab)....alternate email saabsux@hotmail.com
