Diesel Engine Oil for older cars?

    In a Car and Driver Magazine article (Nov 1999 by Patrick Bedard), an 
oil expert, Ed Kollin, recommends using diesel engine oil in older cars, in 
particular, CG-4 15W-40.  He says that corrosion is more of a problem for 
our older cars than wear and that this type of oil contains considerably 
more corrosion inhibitors, detergents and dispersants.   The article does 
warn against the risk of sludge if your engine is heavily gunked up and 
says there is a "very small chance" of seal leakage due to nitrogen 
compounds in the dispersant.
