No big surprise with Jahns. The one thing they did usually do was make a 
fairly thick crown (and also heavy) piston. You could machine the other 
pistons to suit and then adjust deck height by shaving, although you really 
shouldn't have to, and theoretically it's nice to maintain deck rigidity.

Are they new pistons - can you just send them back?

If you are serious about the engine, you might want to try Ross Racing or one 
of the others that make a quality forged piston.
