New information on hiking the legendary Meadowdale International Raceway has
been added to www.meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com. Maps to get to the
track, a guide to hikes of varying difficulty, and an aerial map of the
track are included.

Meadowdale, near Chicago, was a major road course built in 1958. The hilly
3.27 mile course featured The Monza Wall, a steeply banked 180 degree turn
that led to a 4,000 foot main straight. USAC, USRRC, TransAm, ARCA, AMA and
club races were run there. It closed in 1969.

Amazingly, the property remains intact, not taken over by subdividers or
shopping center developers. A portion of the property is now a nature
preserve called Raceway Woods. The park provides a gateway to hike the old
race course.

Or take a "Lazy Man's Hike" via 100+ photos shot during a track walk last
year. The site also has several hundred old pictures of Meadowdale cars and
drivers, as well as articles and commentary by Meadowdale racers and fans.

Don't write off a visit to Meadowdale just because it's winter. When one of
our frequent mild mid-winter days occurs, Meadowdale is a great fresh air
adventure. There are no bugs, the leaves are gone so you can see more, and
climbing the steep hills will definitely keep you warm!
