Bill Nay passed away tuesday Dec 10 at home with his family at his side. He
was 87 and had been diaganosed with pancreatic cancer just 4 weeks ago. West
coast vintage racers know Bill and his very original Lotus 51, that I have
had the privilege of driving for the last 8 years...Most people knew Bill as
a big quiet old guy that didn't say much. A lot of others know Bill as the
guy that got them started in racing formula fords. What most people don't
know is that Bill started racing at age 62 !!!
He bought a Lotus 61 and began runing regionals with SCCA. And stayed with
formula fords untill the end. In fact he had just bought another Lotus 51 and
was looking forward to next year when his son, Bill jr and I would be driving
2 of "Bills Lotus"......
I for one am going to miss Bill a lot. We have become very close friends over
the years.
