Pat was probably the first to recognize and have the resources to initiate a
trend reversal in Vintage Racing. In 1990, SVRA Group 6 was completely "out of
control." Big motors and big egos fueled by big dollars made for big wrecks
and big problems.
Pat put in place the first effort to "reverse the trend." Reasonable
standards were established and published. Peer pressure enforcement backed by
official
oversight has been quite effective. A few folks were not willing to comply
and they migrated to other organizations. Group 6 now has close competition and
very few incidents.
This concept has since been implemented in all SVRA race groups with similar
results.
