Good listers, I promise not to go on too long after getting my panties in a
wad about Richard Newton's simplistic (and largely inaccurate)
Sounds like the Glen was fun (and popular, too) Congrats to Syd Silverman on
receiving the Collier Cup, well deserved! Sounds like SVRA are going from
strength to strength thanks to Jack, Carl and the dedicated staff :).
Lime Rock was awesome! It's not really an event, it's an experience. Steve
Earle has been able to shake loose enough change from Rolex, BMW and other
assorted folks to put on a great show with some really cool cars and nice
people. Turn out was no greater than last year, but the racing was good and
the crowds were the best I've seen at LRP in almost a decade. The Bugatti
Veyron is very cool! I think even Pat Ryan could find use for 1001
Mr. Newton, I don't call VSCCA members Jim and Sandra McNeil's 1962 Ferrari
250 GTO (winner of the Phil Hill, nee Monterey Cup for outstanding
presentation and performance for the weekend) "old small bore stuff". If you
had seen Sandra wailing around, stalking the Aston DB-4 GT's of Jim Freeman
and Jack Boxtrom on Saturday afternoon, if you had witnessed Tivvy Shenton's
XK-140 and Bob Girvin's Hemi-powered Allard GT INCHES apart in the dry, in
the wet and even across the finish line Saturday and Monday afternoon, if
you had seen the crowds ON THEIR FEET watching the Bugattis going THREE
abreast through the Left Hander (the pros don't even do that!), you'd know
that your slur about "old fussy guys" doesn't hold water. They were all
I'm so tired of seeing the same old tired clichis regarding each group
rehashed over and over again.
HSR, SVRA, VSCCA, PCA Club Racing; its all basically social activity that
revolves around racing (or rallying, or concours, whatever)
Each group has a legitimate purpose and value for those who attend their
events. Many people attend more than one because they find value in more
If anyone is interested in personalized coaching (made famous in Greg
Prehodka's sidebar in Victory Lane on the MGVR Focus event this year) for
SVRA Summit Point and VIR, sign up for the SVRA Drivers Orientation Program
for those events, we'll take video of you and give you a great deal of
important and valuable information that will allow you to go faster! It's
not just for "rookies", graduates include Steve Pfeffer, Harry Gaunt, even
Bob Fergus! If they can find something valuable in it, you can too!
