I think they were 'flat' tappet wrenches and if memory serves, they were used (or intended) to adjust valves on flat head engines. Think maybe the adjuster was located at the top of the tappet or lif

FWIW We used Massey Furg. model MM80 and MM85 tractor sleeves and their flat top pistons in TR2's & 3's. These were a full 2.2 l displacment and the flat top pistons gave some reasonable compression.
