I know from experience that the directions call for a "warm" motor, but I believe that pertains more to the pistons & rings than the valves. Regardless, the warmer motor should have less loss. I kno

When we ran our rail dragster with nitrous I would get leakage past the valves during the leakdown test if the motor had sat for awhile without running. I always mentally contributed this to rust /

Too bad you pulled the engine.....Next time you have an "odd" problem like this, do like the others have suggested and run the engine some. Not for the rings...but for the valves. I have found that

Skip, that's very interesting, about the valves warping a little from standing open hot. Many years ago I recall some fellas I knew with hot Harley drag bikes had so much aggravation from the valves

Yep! I learned it from a Harley racer! I agree with you all the way and the ring problem gets very interesting with Dykes rings when you pressurize the cylinder slowly, sometimes you get upwards of 7
