My bet is fuel flow restriction. 1. Bad pump 2. Bad filter 3. Bad fuel pick-up I would guess that you can accellerate slowly up to what ever speed you want but that you can not climb hills or accelle

now runs over 4000 rpm in the garage and the advance can be seen with the strobe. Unfortunately, it still won't go over 3000 on the road. If I try to enrichen the carbs more, then I get wads of black

You may have something! I removed the fuel filter and then put a gauge = on the fuel line, before it connects to the carbs. When the ignition was turned on (engine not running) the gauge read 3 psi,

Ed, Thanks for the Info. I'll certainly re-think my use of the stuff. BTW, Do you know of any good general purpose lubricants which don't contain water? Which one do you use? Any good recomendations?
