I think he wants "valve float". They float above the cam, and can cause damage if they hit the piston. Usually though you lose so much power from float that you don't go much past it. -- Trevor Boice

... or valve bounce in the UK. I used to work across the road from a 'garage', and their standard method of diagnosis, tuning and repair seemed to be to rev the engine up to valve bounce and hold it
