Craig, Have you tried fitting solid throttle plates? The HIF4s have little air valves in the plates that are supposed to improve emissions under closed/off throttle (high manifold vacuum) conditions.

Had the same problem with the HIF4s on my V8. These have a different linkage to the HS4s on my Roadster, don't know what the Roadster HIF4 linkage is like. On the V8 it was caused by one carb with a

My cable is not the problem. It has plenty of slack at idle. The linkage doesn't even engage for about 1/16-1/8 of an inch when I hit the pedal. So, the carbs are closing on their own even before I'v
