It should NEVER be engaged when backing up. The safety switch is supposed to turn it off anytime the lever is not in 3rd or 4th gear, but that is assuming the safety switch is functioning correctly.

The engine in this car is 1800 cc. In 4th, figure 18 MPH/ 1000 RPM, and in OD, use 22 MPH / 1000 RPM. Thus 3300 RPM = 66 MPH, 3500 RPM = 77. You can cruise as fast as you think the law allows w/o cau
