Here's a copy of an e-mail I sent to Popular Mechanics today. I was irate that the lube shop had inflated my Spitfire tires to 44psi. Last year they did the very same thing to my Midget. It's almost

This does seem crazy. Especially if the tires are cold. The 21/26 psi ratings seem good for cold tires, and I personally don't like to see a warm tire with a pressure more than 32 psi after a good h

In regard to tire pressures, how can one be sure that the gauge is correct? I use a VDO gauge that cost a small fortune, and assume it is correct, but how can one really be sure. What is the experien

Don't bias-ply tires require a lower pressure tham radials? If this is so, some of our older cars need a little more pressure than indicated in the owners manual... But definitely not 40psi, and prob

Does it really make a difference? Ambient temp. changes, different brand tires are different, I think if you are in the ballpark and have both tires on one axle at the same press, you are OK. Ulix __

The book said my B-GT should run at 21F and 24R, but I always run it at 27F and 30R. The shocks are so soft, it can handle the extra pressure and the handling is improved. Many of the tire shops now

Well, the little pencil-shaped pressure gauges are grabage. Ditto for any pressure gauge built into a gas station's air hose. If you are paranoid, take your VDO gauge down to your local tire vendor,

Last year we bought a used Olds Ciera as a second (actually 4th) car for my wife. While driving it for the first week I noticed a slight pull to the right. After checking the right side tires and fi
