A suggestion from my 'kit car' days: mount a VW Beetle handbrake assembly on the top of the tunnel. Some adaptation needed to mount this, and to make the hook-up to the cable, but it's pretty easy.

IMHO, checking the threaded holes in the block flange for 'pull-out' is very worthwhile. Any that protrude above the flange surface should be very lightly chamfered to bring them down to flush. Clay
