Did you remember to bend up the lock tab (if you're using one)? I have both a large socket and crescent wrench that provide plenty of leverage. If I remember correctly, the torque on that nut is 70l

How about removing the starter motor and jamming the ring gear with a hefty screwdriver? I'm thinking of doing the same thing soon and this is how I intend to start. Is that a bad idea? Evangelos

BTDT. I can't take credit for the following method - someone on this List likely alerted me to it several years ago. If you have a long enough wrench, put it on the nut and rest it against the drive

Another trick, just use a chisel on the edge of the nut (direction of unscrewing) and whack the chisel with a hammer a few times to spin it off. My next door neighbor... wondering what I was cussing

Undo the lock tab, put a 1 5/16 socket on the bolt, lock the wrench down somehow and hit starter. Let those horse powers undo the bolt. Pull out the coil wire before trying this. Or for a safer metho
