- I have completed my first post rebuild 500 miles, quite happily, few bits and pieces but generally a successful shake down of my TR2. I want to change out the running-in oil. Is there a consensus on

- Oh boy, here we go again. John, take notes cause you just opened the gate, again. I use Valvoline VR1 conventional 20-50w, it contains the needed levels of ZDDP for our cars. I have 5,500 miles on th

- John, I don't race the TR4....and put less than 1000 miles on it per year. For the TR4, I use a ZDDP additive with good old Pennzoil, Quaker State or Castrol 20W/50 that I buy on sale at Pep Boys, Wa

- Nope, not much consensus. I ran Valvoline 20W50 full synthetic for many years; no issues related to oil that I could see. Contrary to urban myth, it did not leak any worse than conventional oil. At o

- I've been running 20-50 Castrol for decades. Then they changed the formulations to make catalytic converters last longer. 3 years ago the flat tappet cam in my Ford 302 engine went flat requiring rep

- This is a concern amongst the old VW bus crowd as well. The air-cooled engines run hotter (~350F head temps) than liquid-cooled so we want 20w50, and with solid flat lifters people are seeking the hi
