For the "flyoff" type, you hold the button down to set the brake. That means when it comes time to release it, you can just sort of slap the lever (enough to release the pawl) and let it "fly off" w

Also useful in making 'handbrake turns' -- required in some British automotive trials I think. The ones where a timed course involves reversing into tight spots and other abrupt maneuvers. Geo Hahn

Of course the best way to do that is to have 2 leavers, one for each brake. You pull the leaver for the rear wheel on the inside of the turn providing a pivot point. It was a common aftermarket add-

Why not simply install dual hydraulic brake pedals, as found on many tailwheel aircraft?

My61 TR3A had the kind of handbrake where you had to push the button to release it. The TR3A I own now belonged to one of my friends at that thime and this was the major distinction between out cars.
