I'd definitely opt for stainless, rather than the old style chromed version. I used stainless pistons from Sunbeam Supreme in the UK, but I'd be surprised if your US suppliers don't also carry them.

I replaced mine some time ago, in order to fit the SV oil-cooler to my SIII, and beleive it was just spot welded. I cut it off with an angle grinder, and brazed the replacement in place. Julian.

Assuming Left-Hand Drive, it should be on the junction box, where the pipes split between the front and rear brakes. That is to the rear and below the brake servo. Julian.
