- It's most likely the synchomesh is worn out, as this is the most common cause for jumping out of gears. And yes, you'll have to open her up to replace the synchromesh rings. Julian.

- Once you've chewed tham up with an impact driver, try a good centre punch on the outside of the head. That worked for me. Once loose, a Phillips attachment on the end of a tommy-bar does the trick. E

- I have solved the same problem on my SIII by releasing the fixing for the outer cable where it mounts to the dash. This allowed a bit more travel, and popped the bonnet open. Good luck, Julian
