It sounds too expensive for a rusty car. If it has rust that visible then the stuff you cant see is probably worse. My opinion is let it go for that price. I have seen nice rust free GTs go for $170

If you want to stick to the six volt batterys then go to the new Gel Cel batteries on the market. Optima Battery is one brand. These things are great, have about 800 cranking amps, and are smaller.

I wouldnt wire to a hot wire all time, as you may possibly cause your battery to run down. I would go to the electronics store and see if you can get a 12 volt off delay timer to put in the circuit.
