I don't know that just freezing the axle will make it cold enough to shrink it so the bearing will just slide over it. We use liquid nitrogen at work to freeze shafts (gets very cold) and we heat the

If you stripped the hole in the head the plug goes into, I don't know if the inserts will work. They may not seal completly with the pressure behind them. Best to remove the head, have a machine shop
