Great advice. It should be part of the "pre flight" whether it's an autocross, open track or Sunday drive in a Tiger. A number of years ago (I think it was '94), I ran the autocross at Sunbeams North

If you haven't had the fuel tanks out of the car and boiled out/cleaned, that would be my first guess...sediment impeding the fuel flow to the pump. It is a very common problem and you may now have

Oh, I forgot. For a purely street driven application, I'd stay with equal size front/rear, so you can rotate the tires.
