I don't know Lawrie. I've had my set for 6 years and they still look good. They fit fairly well and if there's a complaint, I know I can have it corrected. Unless you're looking for concours quality

The only thing I can think of might be some debris in the piston bore. How about improper seals (too tight), or wrong pistons. I would take it apart and measure the piston and bore to double check.

Don't be afraid to tackle your carbs.......give yourself 4 hours, start to finish. I did mine 3 months ago and made the mistake of bead blasting all the aluminum parts. They came out looking great,
