Piston ring compressor & expanded, Plastigage, valve spring compressor, Have fun, it's not all that bad. Clean,clean,clean..... An engine stand works great, I picked one up used for $20.

That lower cannister piece should just come off. The upper section with the pipe will stay on the block. Try spraying some WD-40,Kroil or other type lube. Then tap it with a mallet. I have never had

I would use a standard torque value for the thread size. The main thing is to maintain the end float clearance of .002 max. You will need to try differant thrust washer thicknesses to obtain this cle
