I switched my Series V to Petronix roughly 15 years ago, or 50,000 miles. Never a problem. I used to get occasional pings on hills; they disappeared with the Petronix. I do keep a spare set of points

When you say "ported", did you do the "Vizard" mod to the combustion chambers? Highly recommended. Then, throw a "KB" grind cam from Delta Cam in Tacoma, Wash into your 1725 and call it good. Best $5
