Back in the good old days of Spitty I and Spitty II, when I had a dash to pot (or would that be a pot to dash?)-I too used the engine oil and it was just fine. charge the in?

Does sound as if the inhibitor is fitted incorrectly, can't quite remember what it should look like but you're starting in the right place if it works in one gear, not the other. where are you based?

I use a 33mm on a 1/2 inch drive and a bar approx 3 feet long. Put it in to gear, hand brake on and get some one to put their foot on the brakes - it'll go eventually... if the engine is out the car
