If you move the HCV to the return line it is exactly the same as being installed in the pressure side except the location of the heater core is now on the other side of the valve, so it receives cool

Jeff- Since you had the dist. cap off did some of the plug wires come off. Sounds to me like you may have a couple of wires crossed on the cap and it is misfiring, creating a backfore situation. Luck

I checked out the 55k Tiger in Il. It says it is a 66 but is a Mk1 by vin number. It has round corner trunk and square corner doors which may be a possibility, although I havent compared vin numbers
