Something is leaking somewhere allowing air in the system, probably master cylinder. It wouldn't hurt to check the wheel cylinders in the back, too.

There should be a letter designation on the motor ID plate. I think "L" is for low and "H" is for high compression. It would be something like "12VC452L126984" with the "L" for low.
