I think the A-Series motor needs some PCV action to keep the gaskets from blowing out. I would try a smaller hose or restricted hose and keep some kind of PCV going. I don't think a vented valve cove

Let me rephrase a little. You don't absolutely NEED the rings. But, if you manifold doesn't have holes or notches where the mounting bolts go, then you probably should have the rings to keep the port
