I remember a number of years back, maybe 10 or so, that one of the Japanese companies (Honda, I think) announced a new valve design. Still mechanically driven, but eliminated most of the valve train.

Same way with the HS2s on my Midget. You adjust the float height by adding shims/washers under the needle valve seat. On mine I used VERY thin cardboard - something like a notecard - to make a shim.
