Sounds just like an external ballast reisistor. Check the resistance between the coil terminals. If its very low, then that doohicky is just what you think. As for question 2, no idea at all. _______

Finally the rain let up for a Sunday and I was able to get out for a mileage test of the EFI Sprite. I did a mostly level 126 mile drive on freeways averaging 60-80MPH the whole way(mostly 5th gear).
