Ive seen these too (and have one too), and they seem to be from Hillmans, or perhaps on very early SI transmissions. You would have to put the gear oil in from the cockpit of the car... Jarrid

I used SAE30 single vis, its thicker than stock, providing more damping. You could also try motorcycle damper oil, not sure of the viscosity. I have spax for my fronts, and me likey very much. Mike

Flywheels can get much higher temp than you are thinking. Also, any threads in the aluminum would have to be heli-coiled since aluminum would last too long at the torque values that steel fasteners

Nope, 40 is the throttle diameter, and 35 is the Weber special model designation, which is a specific combination of internals (most importantly the main and aux chokes) for a specific application.
