from feeling Jeff, I don't know if this will work, but have you tried slowly turning the flange and looking for a place that you can insert the bolt. I believe it's on the spit that you this problem.

John, There is an easy way to test you system. Remove T-stat, sending unit, gauge, and voltage stablizer from your car. Then using clip leads, wire it all back together in the house to a 12V lantern
