Starting with the cable is always a good idea, but if it is not doing the trick then the instruments are probably the culprit. Most of the time when the Tach, or the Speedo start to get "bouncy" it

The fuel, and the temp are on the same primary power line. They are also tied together through a voltage regulator. (A very primitive voltage regulator I might add.) The problem could be either the
