My vote is 65-67 MGB. Based on the hole pattern, it is not a 3 main and the ring gear appears to be on the clutch side of the flywheel which would indicate the starter would be the Bendix style. Larr

If the clutch plate is centered all you need to do is rotate the shaft back and fourth a little. It should just slide right in. That's easy to do if both the engine and the tranny are out of the car,
