I am attempting to add Moss's spin off filter adapter to my 53 TD. what's the secret for removing the adapter that is already in place for the canister filter?( the one that the long bolt goes into.

Hallelujah! found the long socket, drilled cross hole to align with one on TD adapter, put a 90 degree chuck key through both, applied 1/2" drive and viola! after some great pressure, it unscrewed.

Engine seems at normal operating temps, not cooler, so I guess it must be the gauge. stat is good according to the example you gave. time to repair or replace. Thanks, as always for your comments, D
