I did a full rebuild on the block - including hot-tanking it. Any crud that was in there was cleaned out. Visual inspection of the block verified it was good and clean. I had no problem maintaining

Hrm. I hope not. So are you suggesting that the timing chain broke FIRST, the pistons pummeled the valves into au gratin potatoes gone wrong, and locked the camshaft? If it was the chain that broke.
