I used the conversion Moss sells. Maybe a small amount of leaking but nothing to complain about. I turned the groves off on a lathe but trashed a few carbide inserts in the process, then polished it

I bought a new Smiths impulse tach for the Lotus 7 I used to have. I can tell you from experiance that playing around with the polaraty on the coil to see what works best will fry your tach. However
